Pall Mall cigarettes were first made by Butler and Butler Company in the year 1899, and within a few years of its introduction these cigarettes became very famous. The brand was later acquired by American Tobacco in 1907. When American Tobacco bought this brand they were already well known among the public, with a little promotion Pall Mall cigarettes became one of the best brands in the market. Smoking this brand is also considered as a status symbol. Pall Mall Cigarettes are currently made and marketed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and distributed throughout the USA. They are distributed internationally by British American Tobacco.
Taking advantage of the popularity of this brand among public, American Tobacco Company launched new varieties of Pall Mall, one such successful launch was the Pall Mall King Size cigarettes. They also introduced new innovations like a new way of stuffing the tobacco into the cigarette paper that was supposed to make the brand go easier on the smoker's throat. This brand further became popular in the late 1960's when the sales of the King Size cigarettes really took off. The makers of Pall Mall then introduced the Long variety which was 100 mm in length. They ran successfully for a few years but in the late 1960's they were overtaken by Winston cigarettes.
