Whenever I smoke West cigarettes I am reminded about its incredible history, how this brand became popular in such a short time period and the way they became so popular, etc. These cigarettes were first made and marketed by Reemtsma, which is a German tobacco company owned by the Imperial Tobacco Group. West Cigarettes were first introduced in 1981 and were only available in Germany after 1987. Only after 1987 these cigarettes were sold in vending machines, supermarkets and stores. This brand is the second largest selling cigarette in Germany due to its magnificent, smooth flavor, aroma and the reasonable price they are sold at. The West brand of cigarettes is now available in more than 90 countries. Since its introduction this brand has shown remarkable growth and throughout the 90's and in the past decade, this brand has shown some impressive sales figures.

The brand West is the title sponsor of the McLaren Formula One racing team, the brand withdrew its sponsorship in 2005 after the European Union imposed a ban on advertisement regarding tobacco products.

Some of the varieties are West Silver (lights), West Red (full flavor), West Blue (ultra), West Rich Blue (medium), West Fusion Silver and West Ice. Like few other brands the packaging is based on the flavor of West cigarettes in them. The packaging is nothing special; it's simple yet stylish and eye catching. Each pack is of different color, this depends on the flavor of cigarettes, and a white band at the top containing the company name. The name of the cigarette flavor and variant along with the company logo is placed just below the white band.
